Eric Prokopi was found to have been engaged in a highly illegal activity. It is therefore that the Florida man was taken court where he not only was accused, but also pleaded guilty of smuggling dinosaurs.
Though, it might sound as if it is a Dinotopian reality, it is being said that he smuggled a number of fossils of dinosaur as well as its skeletal remains in the States. The case is being seen by the US attorneys and they are of the hope that the historical pieces, including skeleton, would be returned by them to their countries of origin.
Yes! The specimens smuggled also comprise the skeleton of a prized 70-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus bataar. The same is worth some $1 million, the report says.
The 38-year-old Prokopi at present is free and is moving around in Gainsville, Florida. He is on bail unless and until a hearing on April 25 decides if he should be given a 17-year-long sentence or a punishment bit lenient.
"It is among the larger dinosaur shopping lists you'll see today, a list featuring another partially complete Tyrannosaurus skeleton, multiple Oviraptor specimens, a fly dinosaur from China, and a Saurolophus", Martin S. Bell, Assistant U. S. Attorney, was quoted as saying.
